A convenient calibration method of instantaneous polarization radar system

Abstract

In this investigation, the design of instantaneous polarization radar system based on multilayer microtrip patch antenna is presented, and a convenient calibration method for instantaneous polarization radar system is introduced. According to the system structure, the distortion matrices R and T of receive and transmit channels including antenna and active circuits are derived. With the capabilities of instantaneous polarization measurement, the calibration method using three partly known, perfectly polarization-isolated calibrators is adopted. This method makes no assumption about the system distortion, and has no complicated calculations. Three measurements are sufficient for acquiring the distortion matrices R and T. Simulation results show the calibration performance.
