Abstract

Currently, there are some classical routing protocols for WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) such as LEACH [3] and PEGASIS [5]. However, most of these routing protocols do not consider the communication range and cannot guarantee the connectivity of the network. In this paper, we propose an improved routing protocol called CECS (Connectivity-guaranteed and Energy-efficient Clustering Scheme) which has high performance in connectivity and energy cost. In CECS, through the improved election strategy of special nodes, the network's connectivity can be ensured. Meanwhile, we consider the distance information and remaining energy of the nodes so that the energy consumption is reduced. Simulation results will show that CECS can guarantee the connectivity of the network and reduce the energy consumption about 20% compared with PEGASIS protocol.
