Abstract

Puts forward a concurrent engineering oriented multi-media meeting system and introduces its method of implementation. As a multi-place, real time, and distributed system, it supports the real time passing on of audio, image and text. With this system, relevant attendants separated by remote distances can take part in the multimedia meeting virtually. Thus it provides the convenient technical support necessary for the continuous evaluation and improvement on the designing process in the life cycle of a product. The system hardwares include HP and SGI workstations. The system is based on a X-Window system and is developed using the OSF/Motif graphic toolkit and the C programming language. Although it is implemented on HP and SGI workstations, it can be transplanted to other "hardwares. The system has proved its workability through a series of actual applications.
