Abstract
A LDA side-pumped electro-optically Q-switched Nd:YAG oscillator with short pulse and high peak power was demonstrated. By using a flat-convex end mirror to compensate for the thermal lens effect and shortening the cavity length as much as possible, 4.76 ns, 40.5 mJ Q-switched pulses with a peak power of 8.5 MW at a repetition rate of 200 Hz were achieved. Moreover, the beam quality M 2 factors were both better than 3.7 in two orthogonal directions.
