Abstract

The coherence factor (CF) is defined as the ratio of coherent to incoherent powers received by the radar aperture. Since the incoherent part is only obtained along the aperture direction, then the image sidelobes in down-range cannot be effectively suppressed. We propose a two-dimensional (2-D) CF by introducing another incoherent sum in the frequency dimension. In essence, we employ not only the antenna diversity but also the frequency diversity of the spatial spectrum of the targets to suppress sidelobes and ghosts in the radar image. Simulations and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the merits of the proposed approach.
