N2 - The stator yokeless and segmented armature (YASA) axial flux permanent magnet machine had the advantages of high power density and torque density, high efficiency, compact axial structure, and easy maintenance. The machine had a broad application prospect in electric vehicles, wind power generation and other fields. A large number of articles had been analyzed on the YASA machine. Based on the research of the YASA machine at home and abroad, this paper introduced the typical topology of such motors, summarized the calculation methods and performance optimization of electromagnetic characteristics, loss analysis and reduction technology, temperature rise and heat dissipation research, cogging torque reduction technology, structural strength check and manufacturing imperfection analysis, and stator core material selection. The current application of the YASA machine was summarized. Finally, based on the research status of the YASA machine, the development trend of its future research was prospected.
