Wei Yiming is currently an outstanding professor and Vice President of Beijing Institute of Technology. Member of the German National Academy of Engineering, foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering. CJ Distinguished Professor (2008), Winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund (2004), National High-level Leading Talents (2017), Academic leader of the National Natural Science Foundation Innovation Research Group "Energy Economy and Climate Policy" (2015), winner of the National Innovation Award (2020). Director of Energy and Environmental Policy Research Center, Beijing Institute of Technology, Director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Energy Economy and Environmental Management. He is also the founding chairman of the Energy Economy and Management Research Branch of the China Society of Advanced Selection Law and Economic Mathematics. He has been invited to serve as editor-in-chief, deputy editor, editorial board member or international consultant for more than 10 international journals, and Coordinating Lead Author for Working Group III of the Sixth Assessment Report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
He has been engaged in management science research for a long time, including resource and environmental policy and management, complex systems and complexity. In the aspect of complex system analysis and modeling, multi-objective integration technology and soft computing method are applied to the research of resource and environment management, and the theory and method of complex system analysis and modeling are expanded in practice. In the aspect of disaster risk management, according to the characteristics of complex disaster system, the system theory of flood disaster risk assessment is established, and a new method of rapid flood disaster assessment is studied. In the aspect of energy policy analysis, using the theory and method of modern management science, several models and supporting technologies of energy policy analysis are established, and relevant important issues are studied.
In 1989, he graduated from Kunming Institute of Technology (now Kunming University of Science and Technology) with a bachelor's degree in mining.

In 2009, he was appointed Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Beijing Institute of Technology.
In September 2019, he was appointed to the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beijing Institute of Technology;
In June 2023, he was elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, and in October, he was elected as an academician of the German National Academy of Engineering.
He has been engaged in the research and teaching of energy and environmental systems engineering and carbon emission reduction engineering management for a long time, and has carried out innovative research work and made contributions in the fields of energy and environmental complex systems, carbon neutral systems engineering, and global climate policy assessment. He has presided over more than 50 important scientific research tasks such as National Natural Science Foundation Major projects, National Key Research and Development Program projects, National Natural Science Foundation Innovation Research group projects, National Natural Science Foundation Major international cooperation projects, 973 Program projects, National Science and Technology Support Program projects, National Natural Science Foundation key projects, and EU FP7. More than 20 books; He has published more than 200 academic papers in international mainstream journals, including 4 sub-journals of Nature, of which more than 200 are included in SCI/SSCI. His papers have been cited more than 10,000 times, and more than 30 papers have been selected as "highly cited papers" by ESI. Since 2014, it has been continuously selected as "China's Highly Cited Scholars"; Since 2018, he has been selected as a global highly cited scientist. The research achievements have won 14 awards such as Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and Beijing Natural Science Award, including 7 first prizes. A number of policy advisory reports have been submitted to the Central Committee and The State Council and have been paid attention to. The research results have great influence in the academic circles and government departments.
Prof. Wei Yiming was selected as one of the "100 Talents Program" of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2005) and China Youth Science and Technology Award (2001). In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the postdoctoral system, the title of "National Outstanding Postdoctoral Doctor" (2005), and the first batch of National candidates for the New Century Hundred Million Talents Project (2004); Received special government allowance from The State Council (2004); National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers (2012).
Professor Wei Yiming pays special attention to the cultivation of talents, and the postgraduate courses "Industrial Engineering and Management" and "Management System Engineering" have been rated as excellent courses by the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has won the honorary titles of Beijing Excellent Teacher and Chinese Academy of Sciences excellent postgraduate tutor. He has won the first prize of National education and teaching achievements and the second prize of National Excellent teaching materials.
