Domain pattern evolution in hexagonal systems

摘要

We employ phase-field method to investigate the evolution of domain patterns in hexagonal systems. YMnO₃ and Mg-Cd alloy are employed as representative examples. The improper ferroelectric YMnO₃ exhibits antiphase domain structures with six types of domains that connect at vortices and antivortices. The domain wall network evolves through vortex-antivortex annihilation. The ordered Mg-Cd displays straight domain walls between three domain ferroelastic variants, forming spatially hierarchical three-pointed stars at different length scales.
