Abstract

A dual band PIFA antenna with EBG structure in application to wearable communication system is investigated in this article. The proposed antenna is designed to work at 2.4/5.8 GHz WLAN band by two horizontal radiation units, and then the dual band EBG with two rectangular rings is designed, which is quite a simple structure. The two zero-reflection phases and band-gaps of S21<−20 dB are observed in the designed working bands. Both of the measurement and simulation show that the performance of the proposed antenna under bending condition is stable, and by virtue of the EBG structures, several significant characteristics are obtained such as the unidirectional radiation, high gain, and low SAR value, which are necessary for WBAN applications.
