Abstract

Test of charging and discharging is the main means of appraising traction battery performance and is also the basis of battery choice for electric vehicle. A battery named Horizon C2M Batteries that can be charged and discharged in a big current mode is tested. The tests consist of main performance test and driving-cycle test; the main performance test is made up of rated capacity in C/3 discharge rate, big current discharging test and peak power test; the driving-cycle test is the only appraising aim for battery under the electric vehicle running and the Beijing Urban Electric Vehicle Driving Schedule, China Electric Vehicle Driving Schedule and DST Schedule of USABC test standard are used to test the dynamic performance of traction battery. The security, the reliability and the environment impact during the test process are introduced. The purposes of each test schedule are analyzed deeply. The test results are provided and analysis how to find the best charge rate and discharge rate to extend the battery performance and life according to the results.
