Abstract

Aim To synthesize water-soluble β-cydodextrin derivatives containing amino groups and carboxyl groups and test their characteristics. These derivatives were used as selective reagents for electrophoresis. Methods β-cyclodextrin reacted with amino group and carboxyl group containing compounds in the presence of KOH and epichlorohydrin in water, and the water-soluble β-cydodextrin derivatives were produced. Results Seven β-cyclodextrin derivatives were synthesized, which possessed the high water-soluble property. Some of them showed excellent results when they were used as selective reagents to separate chiral isomers. Conclusion β-cyclodextrin derivatives containing amino groups and carboxyl groups have excellent water-solubility, and can be used as selective reagents for the separation of chiral isomers.
