Abstract

The effect of target lateral movement on the normal penetration was studied. Numerical simulations with ANSYS/LS-DYNA was conducted to analyze projectile penetrate target with different lateral velocity at different attack angles. Simulation reveals that the projectile residual velocity of penetrating lateral movement target is smaller than the residual velocity of penetrating immovable target at 0° attack angle, but the reverse is at attack angle; the gesture of projectile is markedly effected by lateral movement velocity, the maximal angle between projectile axes and initial position increases with the difference between projectile and target X-direction velocity. The law of projectile penetration gesture, velocity in penetration movement target is revealed, which is valuable to ammunition design of attacking movement target.
