Abstract

Three typical projectiles with oval, hemispherical and flat noses which penetrate into the hard soil were studied. The change of parameters with time during vertical penetration was analyzed under the condition of the same kinetic energy per unit area. The effects of the noise shapes on the penetration performance and the trajectory in soil were also analyzed for oblique impact and same angle of attack. The results show that the flat nose projectile has large drag area and penetration overload, small penetration depth, and short action time. This can play role in decreasing the velocity of projectile rapidly. Comparing with the flat nose projectile, the overload value of oval nose projectile is smaller and its penetration depth is greater. In the case of the same initial and boundary conditions, the flat nose projectile has smaller trajectory deflection angle, higher anti-trajectory oblique performance and better relative stable penetration trajectory over the hemispherical nose and oval nose projectiles.
