N2 - In the nondestructive testing of in-service gas pipeline, it is not applicable to use common coupling method. However, air coupled ultrasonic testing is an effective coupling method. This work presents an application of air coupled ultrasonic detection. Firstly, the basic principle and theory of air coupled ultrasonic testing technology are introduced, and the attenuation law of ultrasonic wave in air is analyzed, then the air coupled ultrasonic surface wave detection system is set up. Experiment is carried out on a testing block with a number of cracks, the result verifies the feasibility of detection system.
