Abstract

Weak-acid type cation-exchange fiber based on polypropylene fiber was synthesized by preirradiation-induced graft polymerization of acrylic acid and the reaction mechanism was studied. The condition of the preparation was investigated by orthodoxy experimental method. The optimum reaction conditions of gaining higher exchange capacity are as follows; Preirradiation total dose was 25 kGy, reaction temperature 50°C, monomer concentration 20%, reaction time 2 h, the maximum exchange capacity was 9.85 mmol/g under this testing condition and the average was 9.65 mmol/g. Reaction mechanism of preirradiation-induced graft polymerization was also studied.
