Abstract
A kind of new radiopaque copolymers synthesized via the free radical polymerization of 2-(2'-iodobenzoyl)ethyl methacrylate (2-IEMA) with lactobionamidoethyl methacrylate (LAMA) in the presence of methyl methacrylat (MMA). 2-IEMA was prepared from the esterification of 2-iodobenzoyl chloride with HEMA. LAMA was synthesized from the reaction of lactobionolactone with 2-aminoethyl methacrylate hydrochloride. The structures of the resulting MLIx copolymers were characterized by using FTIR, 1H NMR and GPC analyses. The composition of 2-IEMA, LAMA and MMA in the chains can be calculated by 1H NMR spectrum which was found to be in agreement with the feed ratios. GPC analyses presented a nearly symmetrical and unimodal peak with a polydispersity below 1.6. These copolymers indeed showed the radiopacity as evidenced by X-ray fluoroscopy.
