On the approach to combination data with information in safety analysis

Abstract

Aim To study the approach to combining data with information in safety analysis. Methods The source and the type of data and information using in safety analysis were analyzed. Mathematical base and information combination rules of three theories: probability theory, evidenced theory and possibility theory which have been applied in the field of safety analysis were discussed. Results The properties and the relationships among the approaches were presented. The above three approaches have obvious limitation in practical usage. Conclusion Applications of the probability theory, evidence theory and possibility theory to combining information with data rto be further studied, and the new technology for information combination need developing.
