Abstract

Proposes a novel algorithm of power allocation, called re-allocation of residual power (RARP), in the spatial multiplexing scheme of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. Combined with the adaptive modulation and coding technology, this algorithm reallocates the residual power by effectively utilizing the discrete modulation orders according to the different priorities of subchannels under the limitation of quality of service over the block fading channel. Simulation results showed that the new method can improve the system throughput, obtain higher transmit power utilization and decrease the number of invalid sub-channels without additional complexity when compared with the conventional power allocation algorithm.
