Abstract

In wireless media sensor networks(WMSNs), the case of data packets lose or error is inevitable. In order to provide robust image transmission, multiple description coding (MDC) of layered sampling algorithm is proposed base on wavelet transform. The scheme utilizes fully data characteristic and employs different sampling in different sub-bands to realize the MDC transportation of image. Furthermore, a nonlinear correlation algorithm is introduced to reconstruct image when receiving single description. Experimental results show that, compared with typical quincunx sampling methods, the proposed algorithm achieves significant decrease of approximately 24.06% in coding time under the same code rate and better performance in image quantity at the receiver.
