Abstract

Gradient index (GRIN) lenses are attracting more attention in the application of millimeter-wave (mmW) system. In this paper, the novel all-metal GRIN devices are presented. The GRIN lens is formed by parallel plate waveguide (PPW) loaded with uniform posts, which can be regarded as a periodic structure with gradient equivalent refractive indices. The transition of feeders integrated in the lens simplifies the feed structure and improves impedance matching. Based on this kind of lens, the Maxwell fish-eye (MFE) lens crossover, the Luneburg lens multibeam antenna and the crossover-in-antenna are designed and verified by experiments. The good consistency of measured and simulated results indicates that the proposed multichannel/multi-beam devices have obvious application potential in radar and mmW communication systems.
