Modeling and simulation of electric power steering system

Abstract

The structure and working principle of the electric power steering(EPS) system were summarized and the design method of the assistance characteristic of the EPS system was introduced. From the analysis of the mathematical models of the component modules of the EPS system a simulation model based on Simulink was built. The close-loop control strategies of PID and PWM were adopted to control the target current of the motor of the EPS system. The simulation results show that the designed assistance characteristic alleviates the contradiction between the steering agility and the road feel, and the actual current of the motor follows precisely the target current, proving the validity of the control strategy.
