Abstract

Al-Si alloys locally reinforced by aluminum borate whiskers were fabricated by squeeze casting. The fatigue fracture behaviors of the bond zone between the reinforced composites and unreinforced Al-Si alloys were investigated at elevated temperatures to assess the relevant performance. The results indicated that the bonding state of the bond zone was poor at low temperature while was improved as temperature increasing. This leads to a different fatigue fracture mode for the specimens at various temperatures.
