Abstract

Methods of making bio-diesel fuels from waste cooking oils are introduced. Their influence on the output power, fuel consumption and emission characteristics of a turbocharged diesel engine when burning various fuels are studied through comparison. Experimental results showed that for the test engine, when the maximum ejected oil volumes of oil pump were kept constant, the influence of burning bio-diesel made from waste cooking oil upon the power characteristics of the diesel engine did not exceed 2.5% compared with burning ordinary diesel fuel. No matter in full load or partial load, burning bio-diesels made from waste cooking oil can reduce the emissions of smoke, PT, CO and HC, but lead to an increment in NOx products.
