Abstract

A method of target rough detection for ground penetrating radar was proposed. The one-dimensional discrete cosine transform (DCT) component is used as the feature value to detect the potential target in A-scan signal of ground penetrating radar (GPR). The minimum DCT components show a large difference between background and target A-scans after one-dimensional discrete cosine transform. According to this idea, the square of minimum DCT components is selected as the feature value in potential target detection. Finally, a specific threshold is selected to determine the position of the target. Test result shows that the method of minimum DCT components has higher precision than the energy method though it spends much time than the energy method, and can be used in GPR target rough detection.
