Abstract

Visual measurement has been widely used in indoor environments, but it is rarely used in outdoor environments with long-distance targets. Based on the principle of visual localization, this paper proposes a long-distance target localization system for outdoor environment. The system consists of hardware and software components. We use a camera, Raspberry Pi, inertial devices and GPS to form a portable wearable hardware. In software component, we develop target detection, monocular and binocular algorithms for relative target positioning, and use GPS and inertial sensors for global position, etc., the global position of the target is finally obtained. A set of experiments show that this system can achieve a positioning accuracy of 40m for targets at a distance of about 500m.
