Abstract

In order to find the reason that the strain localization take places easily under high strain rate loading, AZ31 magnesium alloy was impacted by compressive and tensile split Hopkinson bars, then the specimens were tested by optical microscopy. The result shows that the deformation localization zone of AZ31 magnesium alloy consists of a lot of refine grains as the grains in adiabatic shear band zone of Ti alloy and other alloys, while the grain refinement result from twinning but dynamic recrystallization.
