N2 - Aiming at further improving the fairness and system utility of the satellite communication system digital video broadcasting-return channel satellite (DVB-RCS) dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA), a novel cross-layer dynamic bandwidth allocation model is proposed. With cross-layer thinking, the model takes both application layers' quality of service (QoS) requirements and physical layer channel state conditions into consideration, transforming the allocation problem into a nonlinear programming to realize the optimization of the fairness and system utility. Also a global optimization algorithm of dynamic bandwidth allocation is proposed based on the model of cross-layer design, and the algorithm can ensure the overall optimal allocation of satellite resources within a period of time. The simulation results show that the model can maximize the throughput of satellite communication system while ensuring user fairness. The overall optimization algorithm can be well adapted to the change of traffic types and the number of users.
