Abstract

How to hybrid power from both the APU (auxiliary power unit) and the TBP (traction battery package) in the series hybrid electric vehicle was described. Based on the equivalent circuit of the APU, it was discussed that three methods of voltage, current, and power were produced from the APU. Then both the "on/off" and "power follower" were presented. All these were done on the APU test bench and the dSPACE prototype controller. Both the diesel engine speed and the excitation current of the brushless AC synchronous generator were regulated. Experiment results show the three algorithms active to hybrid power in-vehicle power source for loads. And it is most convenient to hybrid power source for the APU output power control. Further more, both the "on/off" and "power follower" are validated.
