## Abstract

A formula is derived for calculating mean electron energy in the gas-discharge that occurs in color alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP), according to the local-field approximation. The calculations show that as the ratio x_{Xe} of xenon gas partial pressure to total pressure or gas pressure p increases, the mean electron energy and its variation with the electric field strength reduces. Based on these results, the effects of x_{Xe} and p on the photoelectric characteristics of color AC-PDP are analyzed theoretically. The analyses indicate that the firing voltage, memory margin, brightness and luminous efficiency increase with x_{Xe}; the memory margin, brightness and luminous efficiency increase monotonously with p too, while the firing voltage has a minimum value. These conclusions are consistent with the experimental measurements.
