Abstract

Some basic concepts of Brazilian test and its applications in the study of mechanical properties of explosives are reviewed. A brazilian test system was designed, established, and used to study the mechanical properties of PBXN-5. A simple viscoelastic theory was used to analyze the Brazilian test. Its simplicity and low cost ensured it as an efficient way to characterize mechanical properties of explosive materials. General applicability of the technique developed in this paper for explosive materials is emphasized.
