Abstract

Bird impact resistant design is a complex and key procedure in aircraft design. The coupling of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) with finite element method (FEM) was presented to model bird impacting on the laminated glass structure consisting of inorganic glass, polyurethane (PU), polycarbonate (PC) andpolymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Material properties of the transparent material mentioned above were obtained by quasi-static and dynamic experiment result, respectively. The dynamic response of laminated glass structure with bird impact was obtained by simulations using the commercial software LS-DYNA. The damage and failure processes of laminated glass structure were observed and the bird impact resistance of laminated glass structure was analyzed. It is found that the structure consisting of inorganic glass and polymer has the best bird impact resistant performance.
