Abstract

The new generation weather radar plays an important role in the monitoring and early warning of severe convective disastrous weather. The current radar scanning mode in China is VCP21 mode, which completes an individual scanning time of 6 minutes and scans 9 elevation angles. The low temporal and spatial resolution is difficult to capture the vertical and horizontal structures of rapidly evolving weather phenomena in different stages, which can not meet the operational needs of forecasters. Based on the existing new generation weather radar observation network in China, by increasing the low-level scanning elevation, improving the radar scanning speed, improving the radar product algorithm, and improving the current business radar scanning strategy, we can further improve the radar data quality, realize the intellectualization of radar observation, refinement of temporal and spatial resolution, and improve the monitoring and early warning ability of small and medium-scale weather systems.to make the radar system play a greater role in the early warning of short-term strong convection and severe weather.
