Abstract

The method of applying multimode system dynamics to the simulation of valve trains kinematics and dynamics properties is presented, and used in the analysis of 4102QB engines side-mounted valve train. The results show that it is needed to optimize its cam profile. Thus four style I multiple cam profiles with different parameters, two polynomial profiles and one multi-cycloid profile are designed and applied to the valve trains multimode system dynamics model. By comparing the analysis results, a reasonable cam profile is obtained.
