Abstract

The rise of energy internet requires the integration of power system, information and communication technology which composes a complex cyber-physical system. In the coupled system, the factors of reliability, latency and bit-error-rate (BER) of the communication become important factors to impact on the power system security and stability, so that it is necessary to build a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation system for communication to precisely co-simulate the interaction between power system and communication network. In this paper, based on the analysis of the characteristics and dynamic features of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) network, the architecture and the key technologies of HIL simulation system for SDH network are introduced. Then, based on that, a HIL co-simulation system for power system and communication network with power system control equipment and RTDS is developed to study the impact of communication on the power stability control system. Finally, using a case of stability control, a close-loop simulation is performed in the HIL co-simulation system to demonstrate the impact of the BER on the function of power stability control.
