Abstract
Mitigation techniques for solid rocket motor case is one of critical techniques to improve the service safety of the solid rocket motor.In this review, the progress of mitigation techniques for IM solid rocket motors was summarized. The mitigation methods were classified by venting area into three categories: the overall burst, the head/cylinder separation and the local venting. The design methodology, working principles and practical effects of various techniques were compared systematically. The effect of mitigation techniques on the service safety of solid rocket motor was clarified through the application examples of the ground-to-ground missile, air-to-air missile and ship-to-air missile rocket motors of foreign countries. Finally, the methodologies of mitigation design for the solid rocket motors safety were given and two key factors, namely the critical venting area and the critical opening time in safety design were put forward. This review could provide a reference for the design and optimization of solid rocket motor service safety.
