摘要
Holographic video technology introduces a revolutionary dimension to immersive viewing experiences, offering six degrees of freedom (6-DoF) interaction. However, its implementation encounters substantial challenges in data processing and transmission. This article proposes an innovative solution by integrating semantic communication and edge intelligence. The article begins by presenting a holistic framework for holographic video transmission, elucidating the functions of each constituent, and delineating the system's operational workflow. Sub-sequently, we propose three supporting techniques to mitigate communication constraints, which include feature-based semantic communication from the terminal to the edge server, multiple streams of video combing semantic communication at the edge server, and delay minimizing through the joint allocation of communication and computation resources. Future challenges and opportunities in this domain are also discussed, paving the way for further research and development.
