Study on the relationship between traffic safety and the design of curves

摘要

It has been widely accepted that traffic safety is closely related to the design of curves. Accidents that happen on curves, which are mainly caused by high speed and inadequacy of sight distance, occupy 30 percent of the total accidents. In this paper, a method applied to expect the operation speed (V 85) and calculate the maximum acceleration amax is developed combining LAMM theory and the actual road conditions of China. Thus, the minimum sight distance on curves combining V85 and a max is determined.
