PARTICLE DISPERSION CHARACTERISTICS OF HOLLOW ALLOY PROJECTILES FILLED WITH TUNGSTEN POWDER AFTER PERFORATING A THIN PLATE

摘要

The large-area impact of metal powder is promising in causing high-efficient damage to targets behind the lightly protection. In order to explore the application value of this damage method, hollow alloy projectiles filled with tungsten powder are designed, and used to perform ballistic impact experiments for investigating the particle dispersion characteristics after perforating a thin plate. Furthermore, numerical models based on coupled discrete element method (DEM) and finite element method (FEM) are established to analyze the influence of the different factors, i.e., shell thickness, impact velocity and particle size, on the dispersion angle and residual velocity. These results can provide some reference for the fragmentation design of explosive bomb and the improvement of damage efficiency behind the protection.
