Optimization of Electrode Combinations for High-Performance Bilateral TIBS Stimulation

摘要

Temporal Interference brain stimulation is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique enabling direct electrical stimulation of deep brain regions. This study aimed to identify the optimal electrode pair combination for targeting the thalamus. Using MRI data from 26 healthy adults, individualized head models were developed and envelope fields computed to simulate electrical stimulation under various electrode configurations. Forward simulations and assessments of 998 electrode combinations within these head models revealed the F7-P7/F8-P8 combination demonstrated superior overall performance. These findings provide a foundation for establishing a targeted optimization framework for thalamic stimulation, including the selection and evaluation of reference metrics.
