Numerical Comparison of Time-Reversal and Equal path Methods for Transcranial Ultrasonic Bifocal Focusing

摘要

This paper numerically compares the performance of the time-reversal (TR) and equal-path (EP) methods for ultrasonic bifocal focusing. A 2D acoustic propagation model was constructed using the k -Wave toolbox to simulate bifocal focusing at 1 MHz. Results indicate that TR exhibits superior adaptability to non-uniform media and achieves higher focal resolution, albeit with greater computational cost. Conversely, EP is computationally efficient in homogeneous media but sensitive to inhomogeneity. These findings provide theoretical guidance for selecting multifocal techniques in ultrasound therapy and imaging.
