N2 - Based on DSR route protocol, this paper advances a proactive link switch strategy for high dynamic Ad Hoc wireless network named Dynamic Source Route Link Switch mechanism (DSR-LS). In order to envoy packet transmission, DSR-LS utilizes RTS/DATA or CTS/ACK embedded with link switch request or reply option to find a new link in one-hop range of the node at the time of detecting a link breakage trend. New link information is not sent to the source node of the route until an error happens on the path, which evidently decreases the route control overhead. By this local link switch, DSR-LS improves lifetime of the route and decreases extra route overhead caused by link interruption at the cost of increasing MAC overhead a little. Finally, results show that DSR-LS effectively enhances the performance of DSR protocol in mobile Ad Hoc network by increasing packet delivery fraction and decreasing route overhead.
