Instability of hypersonic boundary layer flows caused by favorable pressure gradient and wall-heating

摘要

New modes of instability in high-speed boundary layer flows are investigated in the framework of linear stability theory (LST). The flow becomes unstable due to the dual effects of wall-heating and favourable pressure gradient (where a streamwise velocity overshoot is developed). The study shows that the new mode grows in a rather broad spectrum of both spanwise wavenumber β and frequency ω. On the other hand, the conventional first/second modes can hardly co-exist with the new mode.
