N2 - The reactions of the Sn·Sn one-electron bonded compound [K(THF)6][LSn·SnL] (L = N,N-dpp-o-phenylenediamide) (1) with 1,2-diketones afforded three mononuclear complexes with the doubly reduced diolates, [K(DME)]2[LSn(BZ2–)2] (2) (BZ = benzil), [K2(THF)3][LSn(PQ2–)2] (3) (PQ = 9,10-phenanthrenequinone), and [K2(THF)2(Et2O)][LSn(AcQ2–)2] (4) (AcQ = acenaphthenequinone). These complexes feature a formal Sn(IV) center that is six-coordinated by three chelating ligands (L and two diolates). In comparison, the reaction of 1 with 9,10-anthraquinone (AnQ) yielded the dinuclear complex [K(DME)4]2[LSn(AnQ2–)SnL] (5) with two Sn(II) centers, which are three-coordinated by a ligand L and a bridging AnQ2– dianion. The products were characterized by single-crystal structures, 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy, and DFT calculations.
