Design of highly nonlinear, single-polarization and single mode MOF with elliptical air holes

摘要

Two kinds of highly nonlinear microstructured optical fiber (MOF) are designed in this paper. The MOF can achieve single-polarization and single-mode transmission. The Confinement losses radios of y-/x-polarization for the fundamental mode are 37 for structure (1) and 58 for structure (2). To achieve this design, the relationship of the structure parameters and the confinement losses, confinement losses radio of x-/y-polarization for the fundamental mode are discussed based on the complex finite element method accompanied with the perfectly matched layers boundary condition. It is showed from the numerical results that the confinement losses decrease when the pitch of the air holes, the air-filling fraction and the rings of the air holes increase. In addition, the confinement losses are dependent on the fundamental mode polarization, and the confinement loss ratio of the y-/x-polarized increase with increasing the pitch of the air holes, the air-filling fraction and the hole ellipticity.
