Design and study of conformal optics

The dome surfaces that accord with aerodynamic theory are always streamlines. However, these conformal dome surfaces are usually interferential with the symmetry of the optical system, which may produce severe aberrations and may reduce the resolving power of the system. A corrector system, which is between the conformal dome and the optical system, can be used to correct the aberrations produced by the conformal dome surfaces. The basic ideas, the design method and the thermal aberrations analysis of conformal dome surfaces are presented. A design example is also presented.
