Demonstration of Solid-State Sub-THz ISAC System with Real-Time 1.6-Gbps Communication Rate and 0.62-cm Sensing Resolution

摘要

With the rapid development of applications such as ultra-high-definition video, the Internet of Things (IoT), and autonomous driving, future wireless communication systems are expected to meet higher demands in terms of data rate, reliability, and latency. The terahertz (THz) band, with its large bandwidth and short wavelength, is considered one of the key technologies for achieving 6G, as it can provide higher-speed communication and high-resolution sensing. This paper presents the design and implementation of a solid-state electronic sub-THz integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system, operating at a central frequency of 210.6 GHz. The system integrates both communication and sensing functions on a single hardware platform and employs time-division multiplexing (TDM) ISAC waveforms to enable high-speed real-time communication and high-resolution real-time sensing. Experimental results demonstrate that the system successfully transmitted ISAC signals over a 13.7 -meter distance, achieving a real-time communication rate of 1.6 Gbps, with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) greater than 24 dB and a bit error rate (BER) below 6 × 10-8, thus meeting high-reliability communication requirements. Additionally, using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology, the system achieved a range resolution of 7.2 cm and an azimuth resolution of 0.62 cm. This is the first successful realization of a solid-state electronic sub-THz real-time ISAC system, validating its feasibility for next-generation wireless networks.
