A Tone Mapping Method Based on Subjective Visual Response of Human Eyes

摘要

Tone mapping is a widely used image processing method for reproducing high dynamic range(HDR) content within a low dynamic range(LDR). A novel tone mapping method based on the visual response characteristics of human eyes is proposed. Unlike traditional methods that rely on simple histogram binning based on pixel counts, the proposed approach introduces a weighting calculation based on pixel gradients, emphasizing the perceptual importance of details in different regions of the image. A Just Noticeable Difference(JND) based histogram is adopted to more accurately segment luminance intervals according to human perception. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms similar algorithms in both subjective and objective evaluations. Additionally, the algorithm exhibits faster computational speed compared to state-of-the-art techniques, making it a promising candidate for real-time HDR image processing.
