N2 - The development of advanced melt-cast explosive carriers capable of simultaneously achieving high energy, low melting point, and superior safety remains a formidable challenge due to the inherent trade-offs among these properties. Herein, we propose a molecular fluorination strategy to break this trilemma by synthesizing 1-difluoromethoxy-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DF-7), a novel energetic material derived from rational design of the DNAN scaffold. DF-7 exhibits an exceptional balance of performance and safety: it achieves a detonation velocity of 6652 m s−1 (11.3% higher than DNAN) while maintaining mechanical insensitivity. With a melting point of 94.0 °C and decomposition onset at 307.3 °C, DF-7 offers excellent processability and thermal stability. Its one-step synthesis at room temperature yields 95% product, ensuring scalability. Furthermore, DF-7 demonstrates outstanding compatibility with RDX and NTO, low volumetric shrinkage (10.8%), and compliance with vacuum stability standards. When incorporated into IM formulations, DF-7-based explosives achieve detonation performance comparable to TNT-based systems, highlighting its potential as a high-performance carrier for next-generation insensitive munitions.
