This paper briefly reviews the development of computational methods in condensed matter physics, with a special emphasis on the fundamental role of computational methods and their interdisciplinary connection with related research fields. The paper comments on the new opportunities and challenges faced by condensed matter physics computational methods in the era of rapid development of artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
