Abstract

Aim: To investigate the synthesis of new derivatives of resorcarene and their use as separation materials. Methods: Resorcinol reacted with aldehydes in the presence of hydrochloride acid, and resorcarenes were produced. The resorcarences were derivatived using pentyl bromide and 2-chloroacetic acid. The selectivities of perpentylated resorcarenes used as gas chromatographic stationary phases were tested. Results: Perpentylated resorcarenes show excellent selectivity for separation of positional isomers. Conclusion: Perpentylated resorcarenes can be used as gas chromatographic stationary phases.
